CareSight began as a nursing performance analytics solution. Our working premise was to turn all of the mountainous data silos generated from devices and systems into simple, easy to understand and correlated actionable data. The platform allows us to personalize this correlated data into dashboards, charts, graphs and tables tailored for individual roles, presenting the information users want to see, how they want to see it, when they want to see it. This is proving to drive desired behaviors as measured against organizational goals.
Taking it One Step Further: Alarm Management
CareSight looks at each and every alarm being generated by devices and systems. We decided there was a different way we needed to look at that data. And that’s where supporting hospitals’ efforts to meet TJC NPSG.06.06.01 came in. We’ve added the capability to inventory all alarms from any medical device but are now taking it one step further. For instance, CareSight’s Patient Monitoring Alarm module inventories alarms by grade and then drills down by type.

Our customers now have a simple to use tool to “model” what-if scenarios for each and every alarm and immediately know the resulting decrease that would occur in not only that alarm but overall alarms. For instance, what would happen if the alarm limit for SPO2 were lowered from 91 to 89? Or SPO2 alarms were suspended for 10 seconds, either at the monitor or in middleware?
Tools that Allow You to Leverage Your Data
Talking with hospitals we’ve learned they don’t have tools to easily do this and we realized we could help. For the average clinical engineering or informatics team, dumping logs from the devices, entering them into Excel or some other offline tool and then applying crude algorithms to try and get a handle of what alarms they have is a very labor intensive process.
CareSight automates all of this by re-purposing the data we are already processing for alarm management purposes. It’s just there, no audit logs, no spreadsheets, no labor intensive one time effort, all updated in real-time. The Patient Monitoring Alarm module can continually be used to revisit different scenarios to decrease alarms and ensure they’re being responded to in a timely manner.
